Durban Shot' Left

Durban is just one of those places I look forward to going to. I passed by last week on our way to the Bushfire music festival. That’s coming soon on the blog. I knew I wanted to take advantage of the weather. It’s always lovely seeing my friend Unathi who is my music fest half. We both love music festivals, although not so much for the music, more for the travel experience and fun.
I wore one of my favourite all time skirts from Mr Price
Mules are from Charles & Keith (Looooove these)
Bag from Zara
Sunglasses from CottonOn

Suited Up For Winter

One of my absolute favourite things is to wear vintage. 70% of my clothes are probably sourced from thrift shops that sell old vintage wear. I found this suit at such a spot on one of my hunting trips. The print is what got me at first and the price is always right at these places.

With winter steadily settling in, covering up is part of the deal unfortunately. I am no fan of winter and I must say I struggle with what to wear. Anyways I am loving this combo as it has the tones of winter but the silk fabric still gives me the pleasures of summer clothing. Have a great week ahead.

Kysna Get Away

Get-aways are always fun for me. I get so excited the day before the trip. I love planning the holiday as much as actually going to the trip. My latest destination was a short left to the beautiful garden route of South Africa. I explored kysna and plattenberg bay over a long weekend trip. It was much needed.

We spent the days exploring Plett and Driving back and forth to Kysna to see both worlds. It’s a total waste to go to one and not see the other. But then again towns on the garden route are so close you might find yourself in PE while trying to explore.
I would highly recommend Kysna for a little time away. It’s worth the time. It’s a very beautiful and yet cramped town. Small yet big enough. It can get very expensive. We used Airbnb to book and got a great deal.

The highlight was Thesen Island. A beautiful residential/ commercial island town within Kysna. You really get to see how other people live and be inspired. It’s really a great town for relaxing. On the other hand I want to share another reality about Kysna ….. Coming soon.

I wore:
Shirt from Woolworths, Skirt from Cotton-On, Sneakers from Aesics at Superbalist, Neckpiece and bangles from Pichulik & bag from Zara. Sunglasses came free with an issue of Fairlady Magazine

Skinny Sbu Socks/ That Gift Idea For Bhut'bae

My boyfriend’s birthday is next week & I have been thinking of what to get him. I got him these socks from Skinny Sbu last year. I know typical girlfriend getting her man socks or a tie. But my motive behind it was bigger. Social media has created such a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs to showcase their business. On one of my normal Instagram trolls, I came across Skinny Sbu. He sells these amazing socks for men. I knew it would be something my boyfriend would like. And if I was going to be the typical sock buying gift giver, I wanted to make sure I was supporting local business.

For the guys who read my blog I say give your feet some TLC and swag. Go on Instagram and look up Skinny Sbu. Order his socks and walk in style.

Ladies do the same. Yes socks can be taught less gifts which are boring. I assure you the sentiment behind these are worth it.
PS: Support local business.

Travel Tips For That Weekend Away

Hi guys. I just wanted to share with you my travel plan tips for a weekend away. I love travelling and taking time away. I think planning is key in all things. Here are my top 5 things I think you should consider when going away.

  • 1- Plan properly for where you are going. Be sure that you have secured a safe place at your destination. Yes there are spare of the moment decisions when you just hit the road, these can be awesome or end up as a disaster. I use Airbnb a lot to get affordable accommodation. I love how it works and how you can scale exactly how much you want to pay. Try Airbnb, it’s a saver.
  • 2- Consider what you will eat. Most accommodation does not include meals. I love self-catering places. This way I can save money on restaurants and take away. Make your own breakfast with simple food like the classis bacon and eggs and some fruits. In fact you can take some of these from home in a cooler to use at your destination. I find braais ideal for evenings.
  • 3- Pack for the location. Look up the weather for time you will be there. Like every girl I struggle with the “what if I need my boots” syndrome. Over packing can be avoided. Try by all means to take only what you will need.
  • 4- Secure transport or check your car. If you are using public transport, book your return tickets on time. Imagine not being able to get to a place in time or having to leave but your accommodation is not sorted. Also book your car in to be checked for long distance trips or make sure you are filled up for road ahead.
  • 5- Remember to pack your essential toiletries. Don’t waste money on buying things you use on daily basis. I am trying hard to stick to a strict beauty regimen so I must have my beauty must-haves at all times. Also I always make sure I have tampons, pain meds and some antiseptic. You must always be ready. Lol.
I hope this helps. Please comment and share some of your essential travel items.

Clinique 3 Step System

Hi guys. I hope you are enjoyed the Long weekend. Amidst all the eating & joyous celebrations and travels, remember to take care of your skin. This month on my beauty section I bring you the Clinique 3 Step System. I have been using Clinique for the past 4 weeks to sass it out. Their 3 step system comes in 4 varieties for different skin types.

Type 1 is for people with very dry to dry skin. Type 2 for dry to combination skin. Type 3 (my skin type) is for combination to Oily skin. Type 4 is for Oily skin.
I have been trying type 3 because most times my skin is oily but at certain times it becomes dry and oily all at once. The 3 step system works with 3 products.

First the liquid facial soap or gel. They are both the same just in different forms if you prefer bar soap or liquid soap. This is used to clean and remove dirt on the skin.  I tried both but I prefer the liquid form because of convenience more than anything. It cleanses really well & also gentle on my skin. From a cost point the bar soap lasts way longer than the liquid soap.

Secondly is the clarifying lotion (what is commonly referred to as toner). The clarifying lotion is used to remove any excess dirt & impurities left after cleansing. I am not the biggest fan on the clarifying lotion. The opening of the bottle is too big which spills easily and I always end up drenching my facial pads with it. I also felt it was very harsh on my skin.

Lastly is the moisturizing lotion. OMG I love it. Once I apply it, my skin feels silky smooth. Plus it doesn’t cause a shine. It gives my skin this silky matte finish. The extra benefit is that it doesn’t hurt the eyes when applying over the face.

If you are going to try it, it also comes in trail packs. For the exact reason to try them out. If you like it then you can move on to the bigger things.

Fun With Prints

Mixing patterns and prints. A thing people are often so scared off. I am too at times. But I think I am learning the minimal way to approach it. Here I paired shots I made in 2013 with a vintage blouse & the leopard print belt. The leopard print could appear as harsh if you over do it. But I think having a minimal item like it works well.

Wearing shots also means you are already exposed. Cover up the top but keep it interesting with a bright top.

Statement shoes have never hurt anyone. A god pair of shoes could save anyone. Try a bright coloured pair to make the whole outfit pop. Mine are from the Boity range from Legit. XOXO

Laid Back Denim

Denim has always been on trend. I feel like in the past few weeks I have been so inspired by denim trends I have seen. Budgets are still tight (for me that is) and spending sprees are not on my radar. I do however feel that I can re-use so much of what I already have to enhance my denim looks.

I found this cute jumpsuit at Mr Price. It’s just a simple stunner and very different from my other denim items. I paired it with a shirt and brogues for a more casual feel. I definitely see myself wearing this with heels and a blazer coat for a date night or meet up with the girls.
Try out different styles of denim as opposed to jeans. Denim Skirts are currently a huge thing. Buy one that won’t be quickly outdated. Nothing is worse that buying something only to wear it for one season.

Jumpsuit is from Mr Price
Shirt from Ackermans (Yep!!! school shirt)
Brouges are from Trennery @ Woolworths

The Grand White Dinner Cape Town

Hi guys. So the boyfriend and I attended the Grand White Dinner on Saturday the 13th Feb. I had previously seen the event on social media and I was interested to attend. The story behind it is that it's a dinner party where everyone dresses in white with a touch of green. Hundreds of people gather at a secret location, which only gets announced on the event morning. I must say I was looking forward to this. You can get more details ad tickets sales about it here.

If any of the event organizers read this (lol) I have a few things I would caution.
a)     I didn’t like the fact that even though when I bought tickets I bought a specific seat, when we arrived we had to look for seats as most were occupied.
b)    Entertainment, it’s a huge country with many artists, get us more entertained. We paid over R400 we deserved more. Not to spend over 30 minutes in total silence. I have paid R100 and received more from an event.
Otherwise it’s a great way to unwind. Take the girls and go let your hair down.

Bring some good food and lots of drinks to party the night away.
Pretoria is next on the 12th March
Jozi 2nd April
Durban 16th April

I wore a crop to from Mr Price
Pants are vintage; see how I wore them here & here
Shoes are from Legit
The bag is from Zara
