Bokeh Fashion Film Festival

The Bokeh fashion film festival (BFFF) was held this past weekend at the African Pride on Orange Hotel. I read about the BFFF last week while trolling fashion sites & blogs. I was not really sure what to expect at the event, nevertheless I saw there would be a talk on “The power of fashion blogging”. My Saturday was instantly stolen & I made my way there. The setting was impeccable and I attended during the day, it was not that packed so I got space & time to explore.

I must say I expected more media presence and more industry players. I like to meet people with the same interests so that I can learn from them and exchange ideas.
Yes there were gorgeously dressed people but only a few caught my lens. Anyway the talk on the power of fashion blogging came up & I was ready to take notes. The talk was more a sharing ideas session as opposed to one person doing a presentation. The CEO of the Cape Town Fashion Council (ctfc) hosted the event with a panel of bloggers and other industry players. I won't dwell on who said what but what I got out of it was that as bloggers we have the power to influence. Basically you have a platform that you created where your rules are the only thing that matters and you should use that well. My blog started as a place just to save memories and a place to share my style with friends. But as the blogs grows I want to do more. I need to do more.

Clique: An Event For Ladies Empowerment & Networking

Hi guys. My friend Lerato & her colleagues as residents of Guguletu; decided to bring women of Gugs together for Brunch. The event titled “Clique” was aimed at bringing young women of Guguletu together for empowerment & to raise funds for charity. The event was hosted at Pisto’s lounge in NY 112. Pisto’s is an establishment well woven in the Guguletu fabric as it attracts a full house every weekend. It was the perfect spot to gather at.

Clique was organized with the aim to bring the ladies of Gugs together to share ways & means of empowering each other. The theme of the day included a motivational speaker who shared her life story & how she climbed the ladder in the male dominated construction field. This was followed by a delicious brunch paired with sparkling wine from JC Le ROUX as they were the official sponsor of the event. The highlight of the day was a presentation on tantalizing sex toys & ways to help the ladies navigate their sex lives.

Ladies of course arrived styled for the event looking all sort of gorgeous. It was a great way for ladies to get together, share ideas, laugh, eat, drink & just let go. The funds raised went to buying school shoes for children at Lehlohonolo Primary school in Guguletu. The organisers of the event plan to host the event quarterly; so the next one should be around May or June bigger & better. For further information & more images of the event please visit their facebook page here

I wore my favourite Vintage Armani high waist pants that I got thrifting of course. Totally forgot where I bought the bag. The Crop top is from MRP & The shoes are from Legit.

JC Le ROUX was there to keep voices high.
Beautiful JC Le ROUX ladies to welcome the guests with Complimentary drinks & those beautiful smiles
Of Course my heart was stolen by Nonelwa's Vintage Bag. I love the Classic look & how she paired it with the entire look.
Ladies left the event with JC Le ROUX  goodie bags.

Design Indaba 2015

Hi Guys. The 2015 Design Indaba came & went. The festival started on Friday the 20th February to Sunday the 1st March. The design indaba started as an online publication (designindaba.com) which then led to their annual festival. My description of it is a place where people from many creative backgrounds meet to & showcase their work. To avoid plaigarising or not satisfactorily describing it, read here.

While I was there, the creative within me was both satisfied and yearned for more. Young and old, known & unknown, established & starting up artisans from all walks of life were under one roof. I was there more for the fashion. I mean where else do you pay R80 for a whole day of fashion shows. There were food trucks inside so food wise I was sorted. There were also stands showcasing student designers & their work. This got me thinking how hard it is for designers to sell their products in the mainstream market. I spoke briefly to Lukhanyo Mdingi about his work & how hard his journey has been. As an aspiring designer I wondered if there are enough platforms for young designers to get their products out there.

The exhibits I was most anxious to see were those of
Laduma Ngxokolo’s knitwear exhibit.
Trvevor Stuurman’s photographic exhibition
Thabo Makhetha’s Kobo Ea Bohali Coats
Lukhanyo Mdingis designs
Catherine Pitchulik

If you are a fashion enthusiast like me then you recognise the names above & some of their work. I figured it takes a lot to get cracking in this fashion game & one must really want it bad to get it. I for one was very inspired.

My Mothers Cropped Flower Dress

Hi all. I don't know about all of you, but I love wearing anything that I got from my Mother. I treasure things from my family as if they left me a whole estate. This dress is/was one such treasure. I did a bit of work on it & transformed it to its current look. It used to be a maternity dress which my Mom wore while carrying my younger brother, I wish it was bought when she was carrying me at the time but oh well.

To make, I cut the midsection in half & made a skirt & crop top. Sorry I did not take step by step instructions on how to do it. But it’s very easy. You just need to cut how high you want the crop top to be and if you want the skirt high-waisted or lower. I would recommend if you are cropping the top to make the skirt a high waist. I love my results. Enjoy the week guys. Run for those dreams.
