Friday Feature: Jackie Burger

Hi Fashion people all over. This weeks feature is Elle Belle's very own Queen & leader of the pack Jackie Burger. Jackie is the Editor of Elle South Africa. She has worked for brands such as the Foschini which formed the roots of her career in fashion. Jackie has also acted as the associate fashion editor at Fairlady magazine. This belle has several fashion accolades such as  Winner of the 2002 & 2005 Mondi Paper Magazine  Awards - Fashion category, Winner of the most innovative style category in the 2003 SA Style Awards, member of the SA Fashion council and many others. What inspires me about Jackie is of course firstly her style sense. Her love for vintage is clearly in her daily wardrobe and her event outfits.  I might not know her personally but with each month of Elle in her ED's letter. I feel like we are in conversation.

Lupita Nyong'o for Lancome Paris

Hi Fashion lovers. Today I would like to brag about this girl Lupita Nyong'o. I know the world has written and photographed her for ages now but I am still riding this wave. I truly appreciate how beautiful she truly is. As black women we are often confronted with the images of ourselves and our hair and features as not beautiful.We opt for weaving and relaxing our hair and all that so that we can fit a norm. Lupita is beautiful.  Omotle in Sesotho. She represents what I want to be and what I need to be. She is herself and 2014 has truly been the year where blessings came down on her.

Lancome Paris has chosen her to be their ambassador. This is a great honour for any celebrity. I am not that much a make-up girl but I am very convinced to get some Lancome products. Not because they have a black girl as their ambassador, but because they have inspired me.

UCT Pride

Hi guys. So I decided to wear my Varsity sweater to work. I hardly wear it as I am not a sweater and sneakers type of girl. Most days I have to dress up for work. But I wanted to incorporate the sweater into my look. Its always fun mixing casual with formal.

Check Mate

Hi Guys. I got this dress from a thrift shop a few months back. My feeling was always to alter it and make it shorter. But after I wore it yesterday I think this looks good enough. It was R50 bucks. Yes yes I know not fair. But try going to thrift shops and you will be amazed at the value and Quality of clothing you will get. To sound even more unfair and exaggerated, the bag was R20 when I bought it.

Campus Style

Hi Fashionistas everywhere. As we experience the freezing below zero temperatures, we must still look hot in every sense. Keeping warm is essential as is looking well  & put together. This is Sinethemba (aka Sne to her friends). I took these snaps of her at the UWC campus. I think she looks the part in all black. Love this simple and yet well put togetherness she has going. Adore the boyish boots.

Home made Pizza

Living in Cape Town means some days are not even worth getting out of the house for. Today is one of those days. Today will be spent re-styling some vintage clothing and giving them a new life. One other thing I am up to is making pizza. Yes I love pizza and seeing that I am always on a budget, I decided to make my own and here we go. You will need the following to make the pizza.

  Pizza bases ; Mozzarella cheese ; Salami slices ; Mushrooms (any type are fine) ;
Jalapenos (These are optional) ; Olives (optional) ; Fresh tomato & Onion Slices

To make preheat the oven @ 185 degrees. Layer the ingredients as you like, have fun there are no rules. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes and voila.
Enjoy

The blessing that is Perfume

Whenever I buy perfume I imagine that movie perfume with this guy who created the world best scents. He also had an obsession with capturing this girls scent which led him to go crazy. Anyway the boyfriend bought this for me while were shopping at Zara. I love the subtle yet flowery notes in this. The smaller bottle I bought while travelling. These are just some of items I always have on me. Tip, for those of us who cannot afford the R999 -R1500 bottles, treat yourself to some topshop and Zara perfumes. I find they are always well packaged and they smell like that R999 perfume.
