Freedom Day: How Are You Using Yours???

Hi guys. Yesterday I spent the day with my boyfriend and his friends in Khayelitsha, see post about the place here. When I spend time with them I always see a bunch of people that are genuinely happy to live life and celebrate friendship.

For me when I see people like them, I understand what it means to have freedom. To be a young person in this country and have the freedom to choose your path. To have the ability to hang out with your boys or girls without feeling threatened or worried. These freedoms may seem like the norm but they are things that black people did not have just a mere 10 or so years before.

They have coined the term “intellectual swag” in their vocabulary. I guess it simply means that with the freedom of having all they have, there comes the responsibility to work hard for that freedom. To freely pursue being an intellect and enjoy the fruits of your labour.

With all the crazy happening in our country and so many things that threaten our freedom as a nation, we should all take the responsibility to work hard and damn-it play hard. Many young men and women never had the freedom to be “intellectually swag” 21 years ago. But today be inspired by others. Seek help and mentoring. The inspiration you seek is many of the time having a beer in the same bar, but because it comes in black skin, you cease your freedom to take advantage and ask how.

It’s up to you to use your freedom. Will you seek your own swag? Study, party, play and enjoy life. Use the freedom of youth to your advantage. I hope you had a goood one. How did you spend yours???

White: Crop & Skinny

Hi guys. There are fashion moments for me when I wonder WHY and which of my egos allowed me to step out of the house like that. When I initially shot this all white look I was excited and thought “oh this looks really good together”.
Then I edited the photos and when I was about to do the post I just couldn't get to do it. I looked at the photos and thought no D, this ain't it. I was so self-conscious and worried as I always am.

Then today I was looking at this & I thought whatever, I like me. I love me with my fro and lil booty. This was meant to be worn for a date night clubbing which I think suited the occasion for a hot summer night. What I dislike the most is when ladies wear white pants and colorful underwear. Worse is when the undies are also white. That is a serious faux pas.

The trick is to wear nude undies that match your skin tone or black because its an opposing color and hides itself well within white. If you are wearing full panties try the seamless ones as opposed to ones which will have the most VPL (visible panty lines). Share your tips with us.

Top is from Mr Price, High waist Skinny from topshop, sandals from Legit & the bag I made myself.

What are your all white rules? What can and cannot you not wear together? What do you think works best?

Birthday Wishes / Something Similar Will do

Hi guys. I am not overly crazy about birthdays as I wish I was. Anyway I put together a list of things I would like to get for this year. Like I said before I believe birthdays are like a new year. Well I am making a 360 day plan between me & the universe to grant me these wishes. There are also written for anyone out there who luuurvs me and wants to see me smile.

Top of the list are these Loza Maleombho Zebra sandals. She is a New York based designer who hails from Cote´ d I’voire.  My life would be so much richer with these shoes in my closet. Need I explain why I need them, I just do. Here is her site.

Second is seeing Toni Braxton live. I want her to sing all her songs for the album secrets or Libra. The cd’s will also do if I am aiming too high. Lol.

Then there is a weekend away in a nestled secluded jungle type of location. Somewhere where there are trees or outdoor showers and privacy. Where all you hear is wind and water. This one is the tree house in Greyton just outside of Cape Town. I saw it on my life in pink here and I knew I have to go.

The Anya Hindmarch bag. Where do I start? I saw this collection of bags when they were showcased last year. I stared at the TV for the longest of time when they walked the ramp. I immediately took to goggle to get more info. Yes I cannot afford this bag yet, just yet. But then universe can make a plan in the long run.

Of course a fashion dream would be to attend Jackie Burger’s Salon 58 soirees. The soirees are hosted under different themes every session. This is a place where thinkers and creative gather to share ideas and discover new tastes. Please see the site here. I will definitely be attending one later this year

I am fan of the ocean so a cruise has been a desire of mine for some time. My friend Kay went to Mozambique in the past and she told me about her experience. I knew then that I want to go to a place with beautiful beaches apart from Cape Town & KZN. Moz you are on my list.

Then there are the Hunter wellingtons. I love to rock the daisies as you might have seen on the blog in the past. These boots would provide the perfect solution for that. Plus Cape Town gets very wet and windy in winter and multifunctional items are key.

Lesotho, Ohhh my beloved country. This should really be on the top of my list. I love Lesotho and I know it loves me. The peace, the quite, the friendly people, did I mention the peace and serenity. I would love to do a road trip with my boyfriend or with friends. Just seeing the country and laughing all the time.

Marc Jacobs Daisy. I need one of the sisters. Daisy is preferred but Honey & Lola are also loved. I don’t discriminate against these siblings.

Knee high boots. I had a pair a few years back & I must say I rocked them. I wore them overtime but they were worth it. I have been looking for a good pair but if anyone is getting me a gift, some knee highs will do.

The Mangaung Cultural Festival (MACUFE) is where I want to find myself. I always say I am going but then something always seems to come up. I need to make my way here. On the list.

Lastly the Pick n Pay Kysna Oyster festival. I know my friend Unathi would also love it. This is on my list. I love Kysna when I pass there going home but I have never just taken time to appreciate it. This would serve as the perfect excuse for a cosy weekend away
The Lord will make a plan. But I know he helps those who help themselves so I will work hard with him to make some of these wishes come true.

Little Blue Ivy / Thrifted

Hi guys. If you live in Cape Town, you know the struggles we have with the two seasons of the year. Summer for 4 months and Winter for 8 months. It’s very hard but it’s a lovely city to live in so we endure the rains and winds. When I go out now I always have a layer of little cardigan or light jacket as the cold is creeping in. I love dresses and I feel most of the time pants don’t suit me as much. But that’s a psyche issue to be dealt with later.

I love this lil blue dress. It has gotten a bit tight with the weight gain and all but it’s just very cute. I paired it with these blue wedges. Wedges are classic shoes that never really go out of style. I love these ones because they work for all seasons and the colour aint hurt nobody. The blazer is my latest vintage conquest I found in Wynberg the other day. I love it because its old which is what I live for. Plus its a lovely pastel colour which will work well to update dull winter days. Have a lovely day

Simple Dressing / Denim / Jacket/ Statement Bag

Hi Guys. Life happens hey. It just happens. One day a girl is all happy and healthy, the next a whole new card is dealt. I am seriously sick currently and pain is a constant reminder of how I need to take better care of myself. This is a new year for me as it’s my b-day next week. Health is definitely a priority from now on. It’s me first all the way.

Anyway in the midst of all the pain and suffering, work and life continue. I could not be bothered about dressing up and fussing about what to wear at times like these. I can’t look great all the days of my life. In fact I don’t want to always look great. I need to wake up some days and just take clothes on the go & ease my pain in the process.

Paring this black pleather jacket with jeans was the easiest choice. Threw together the bag and shoes because oh well black goes well with black. Have a nice Tuesday and be happy you are healthy. As for me I have to meet a doctor to probe me.

The jacket is from Traffic, Body suit from +Mr Price / MRP , Jeans were a gift, Shoes & bag form Zara

Birthdays / Thrifted / Vintage Love

Hi guys. I hope everyone had a great weekend. My birthday is coming up next week Monday. I am not big on birthdays and going all out to celebrate. In fact in all my life I have never had a birthday party. Yes friends have gathered for a plate & a few drinks but never have I had a formal set up with invitations etc. My family has never been big on celebrating such. I guess my mother was more focused on getting us fed and to school. Anyway this year is no different; I will be a work & posting something fabulous on the blog.

My friend Sebabatso although said something profound to me earlier this year. She made me aware that birthdays are actually new years to everyone. Its literally the time of the year where you can make resolutions or evaluate where you have been in the past year. From this year onwards that is how I will view my b-days, as a new year to yet thank the Lord for another blessing.

This Monday outfit is inspired by my love for vintage things. I love how an old item like this dress can have a new lease on life. To think that someone owned it and took care of it & I get the chance to do the same makes me happy. Have a productive week.

Dress is from the flee market at the Cape Town Parade, bag I got from a thrift shop. Shoes are from fashion express.

My Body Politics: I got Fat

Hi guys. Hope you all had a lovely Easter break. I for one rested but rest is never enough for me. I wrote this post with the intent of blaming the Easter break for my current situation. Truth be told it’s been coming for a while. Honestly when I saw myself today, I just had to capture myself to get me motivated to change. I have gained weight. Now before you say “skinny bitches like to complain the most”, consider that what’s yours is yours and what’s mine is mine. For me, mine is overwhelming me.

I have never been a seriously thin person neither have a I been a fuller figured person. I just have jeans that fit me the way I want and when they don’t, I know I have a problem because that’s my ideal weight. I know when we grow up we go through changes and our bodies also change but I am finding it hard to accept this change. I saw this coming last year. I ate everything and drank too much. Now I am here and I need to make the changes. If I don’t lose it I don’t. But I will try my bestest. Challenge Accepted!!!!!.  Oh and I still carry two bags just for control..
